About Hypnosis

ABOUT HYPNOSIS

Hypnosis is a natural relaxed trance state where select focus is established. Enjoy this 5 minute video for a short explanation.

I am schooled in Integral Hypnotherapy which is collaborative. You the client are a co-therapist that assists me by communicating feelings about a goal, imagery, and words that are customized
to reflect your sensibility.

Who can be hypnotized? Anybody can be hypnotized. It's a misnomer that the hypnotist does the work. No one can hypnotize you. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis.

How do you achieve a hypnotic state? The two things needed to achieve a hypnotic state is your desire and the rapport we build with each other. Trust is essential between therapist and co-therapist. A phone call to establish suitability with each other is mandatory before scheduling a session.

 Therapeutic Applications

  • Physical or Medical Issues
    • To rest and rejuvenate the body. To control pain. To heal. But to never replace traditional medical intervention.
  • Expansion of Consciousness

  • Spiritual Guidance
    • If you've meditated, you have been in the hypnotic trance state, which has been used for 1000's of years to expand spiritual connection.
  • Emotional Growth
    • Regression in used in Hypnotherapy as a tool to go back to a time that needs emotional healing and express the feelings. What you can feel you can heal, but you must heal the cause, not the symptoms.
  • Changing Negative Behaviors or Habits
    • Beliefs about your self, old programming and recurring patterns can be changed by finding the root cause, creating SMART goals and aligning behavior with your values.

  How does hypnosis feel?

You have experienced similar trance like states before. In fact, one third of our waking hours are spent in a trance state. The only difference being, you may not have been selectively choosing what went into your subconscious mind. The majority of time, our mind wanders and the quality of those thoughts are most often negative and self defeating.

The only difference between your meditative state and hypnosis is your focus. Try it and find our with a portion of a session below!

  • Have you ever driven somewhere and not remembered the journey?

You were practiced enough in your driving route that you could fall into a trance state while driving. You can establish this automatic response in hypnotherapy when you practice the skill regularly. You will enter into hypnosis faster each time with practice. The difference in this example between the driving and hypnosis, is that you were not selectively deciding what to daydream about while driving. During hynosis, you will selectively decide what you will focus on .

  • Have you ever meditated or prayed?

In this trance state you were relaxed and selectively choosing your thoughts to connect with  a higher source. During Integral Hypnotherapy, you have a whole range of topics to selectively focus on while in the same relaxed state.

  • Have you ever gotten so involved in a movie or sports event that you finished your snack without noticing?

In this trance state, there is intense selective focus but not in a relaxed state.  Without the relaxed state, your  nervous tension may have took over and you acted without intention. During hypnotherapy, your state is relaxed and your choice to participate, follow instructions, and to end the session are all within your control.

Hypnosis is a skill. You improve with practice!

How does it work?

Every mental, emotional, physical, & spiritual experience that has passed through your conscious has been stored in your subconscious mind.  Not only that, its' been imbedded into the cellular structure (DNA) of your body. These experiences have created your beliefs, feelings, reactions, fears, phobias, and goals in life. Willingly or unwillingly your whole life has been directed by what has been stored in our subconscious.

Your subconscious can be a great help to you in life, once we learn to become of aware of old self defeating programming and impress it properly to utilize our latent abilities.

Hypnotherapy not only helps you become aware of worn out perceptions, but helps you resolve them through understanding. By objectively observing one's own experience without reaction you learn the unconscious choices you've been making that affect your behavior and body and then change them.

This is accomplished not through the conscious mind as in traditional counselling, but through the subconscious mind. This is the expertise of the Hypnotherapist.

To understand more about hypnosis, learn how the mind functions below.

Where you are when not in a trance...
The Conscious Part of the Mind:

  • Uses logic and analyzes
  • We use will or volition to make choices and follow through
  • Inductive and deductive reasoning
  • 5 senses engage
  • Stores the "gatekeeper" to the subconscious that stops us from being in a dream state all day. This gate keeper is called THE CRITICAL FACULTY.

Critical Faculty:

What we have to bypass to get into a trance

The Critical faculty develops between 8-11 years of age. Before then our imagination runs freely between our conscious mind and subconscious mind. Reality is subjective to us and determined by environment,  authority figures, repetition and conditioning. It is where the majority of our life long beliefs and behaviors come from.

After it develops, we do not slip so easily between reality and imagination. It becomes harder to program the subconscious mind. In order to get past it and store new memories, beliefs, phobias, fears, or emotional responses we have 3 options:

  • Use boring repetition, in a monotonous voice and even tone.

  • Overwhelm it with movement, and/or successive commands given quickly and authoritatively and/or engaging both physically and mentally and/or both right and left brain.

  • Startle it with noise and command.

Hypnotherapy uses all three ways to bypass the critical factor so that you can consciously choose the quality of your thoughts, emotions, and imagery.

The Subconscious Part of Mind:

Where we plant the seeds for healthy thoughts and images that supercede old fear based beliefs and programming.

  • Stores impressions and perceptions received
  • Prioritizes stored memories relative to emotional intensity. Our survival instincts place a higher priority on fear and pain memories to protect us.
  • Creative mind that manifests
  • Takes verbal commands literally
  • Its' language is imagery and emotion
  • Influences the automatic nervous system
  • Drives our behavior by how we feel about something.
  • Stores facts as a mix of fact and perception - everyone's fact based reality is perceived differently.
  • Stores Input from 6 senses.
